This week I finished my Ork Warboss for my Death Skulls tribe. He is an Orruk Megaboss conversion with just a few minor conversions to bring him into the 40k universe. Here is the final showcase and some notes on the conversions themselves. Ork Warboss When the Orruk Megaboss was released, I knew I needed to convert one for my Ork Warband. Just over a year back, I posted my unboxing thoughts and ideas for the conversion. The work continued off and on for the last year in bursts. But here he is at last, my Orruk Megaboss conversion into an Ork Warboss. One of the final additions I made was the larger base, thanks to an indirect prompting from NafNaf. I had originally posed him on a 40mm base from Secret Weapon Miniatures. But felt it needed to be bigger and have more height. Rainbow Warriors Tactical Squad Showcase and Paint List

This weekend I completed the Rainbow Warriors Tactical Squad for the charity raffle and am happy with how they turned out. And really happy I’m not painting aÂ whole army of them. For those who haven’t heard anything about the #RainbowWarriorsProject yet, it is a new charity raffle a group of us started up on Twitter. The idea and funds are directed to supporting diversity and inclusion within the gaming community. Out of a discussion on this topic, the idea to paint the Rainbow Warriors, a Chapter based on the Mayan and Aztec cultures, was born. I jumped in and volunteered a tactical squad; others donated kits, others time to paint. The finished models are then being sent to Dan (@TheLonelyHavocs) who is painting the bases donated by Dragon Forge and applying decals fromÂ Fallout Hobbies. Painting Pox Walkers with Washes Tutorial and Showcase

Yes, I jumped on the new 40k box set. I didn’t fully plan on doing so, but I broke down, and I am glad I did. These new models are incredibly detailed and full of character. The zombies were the first to get paint and here is the tutorial on painting pox walkers with washes. I decided to use washes on the Pox Walkers as I wanted to get all 20 of them finished quickly and experimented with the style. When done well, you can get a great looking unit with a few different glazes of color. Priming and Prep After assembling the miniatures, I took some of the duplicates and modified them as you will see below. On some, I removed horns and extra equipment. On others, I bent arms and hands to get a different look. Each model got a solid coverage of white primer using two light coats. For painting with washes, others have recommended using gray primer and give it a quick spray of white from the top. This can help …

Blood Bowl Tokens Done

As I try to get a few projects off my painting table, I knocked out the Blood Bowl tokens for both the Dwarf and Orc teams. I wanted them to match the players, but still be identified as tokens, as in mostly metal. Since I have now finished the Orc Team, The Mighty Squigs, and the Dwarf Team, The Golden Diggers, I figured I should get their tokens done as well. The idea to glue the tokens to the bases originally came from Scott on Twitter (@ryglore), and Thor (@Thor_Thorison) added the idea of gluing the coins as well. Having the tokens glued to a base should make it much easier to move around and not lose the tiny balls. It should also be fun having the coins stand up on the sidelines. Orc Blood Bowl Tokens For my Orc team, I painted the purple and orange over random armor plates and icons. This was fitting for the Orc feel, and IÂ carried it over to the tokens. Dwarf Blood Bowl Team Showcase

After a few last sprints, I have finally finished my Dwarf Blood Bowl team, the Golden Miners. Â These were a great set of miniatures, and in many ways, a much nicer set than the start box models. I’ll talk more about what I liked about this kit at the end of the post. I also linked the tutorials I’ve already put together for the team below. Let me know what you think of the team. Dwarf Blood Bowl Team Here is the whole Golden Miners team on the pitch. The Dwarven Slayers are clearly the most dynamic set of miniatures in the set. You can also see that for this duo and the Blitzers below, the kit came with two sets of heads. You can’t argue with their beards though. And here are those Blitzers. Clearly the heavy hitters of the team, they have a bit bigger armor plating and a hand guard bordering on a knuckle blade (no weapons in Blood Bowl of course!). The final specialist on the team are the two runners. …

Painting the Dwarf Blood Bowl Team

In my excitement to get a set of Blood Bowl teams finished, I painted up two of the Dwarf players: a blocker and a Slayer. Given they are a fantasy sports team, I used bright yellow and blue for their armor. Here is how I amÂ painting the dwarf blood bowl team. As with my Orc team, I painted them to be quick so that I can finish the team quickly. Yellow would seem to be an odd choice for a quick scheme, but WarColours One-Coat Yellow made it simple. You can check out the color list at the bottom of the post. Dwarven Blocker I love the look of the Dwarven Blood Bowl players. They are tough and squatÂ but are distinctÂ from mail-clad warriors. They also have a nice balance between ornate armor and flat panels for decals. The long beards and braids add movement and regalness to themÂ even if their bellies hang out a bit. I attempted to paint the blue gems as sapphires, which I think worked out fairly well. Troll Slayer The Troll …

Orc Blood Bowl Team Completed

While I didn’t finish them for Squaduary as I had pledged, I finally finished all twelve of the Orc Blood Bowl players of The Mighty Squigs. Who says you haven’t seen a purple orc! As I currently don’t have time for games of 40k, I find that board games have been easier to get the family involved. Blood Bowl fits this perfectly. I think I could even talk my dad into a match since he is a huge football fan. When it came time to which team to paint first, it was simply a matter of which team looked like more fun. And what is more fun than orcs? (though I keep wanting to spell them orks!) Whenever I start a new faction, I look at what colors I haven’t painted and what would look good on these models. I hadn’t painted any armies with purple, and I figured they would look pretty good on an orc’s green. Armed with my handy color wheel, I found that to finish the complimentary color trifecta I needed …

I finished these a few weeks back but hadn’t posted the showcase for them yet. I also put together a painting guide for them as well. While not much different than the Morkanaut, they are a simpler version due to their size. As with my other Ork walkers, I’ve been painting these on the couch so I wanted them to be quick and easy. This is why I went with the drybrush rusty metal and spot colors of the blue, red, and white. Showcase First up is the finished Death Skull Killa Kans. I built each one up with different weapons, in part because each looks cool, but also I don’t really know what is the best load out with them. I figure when I get 4-5 squads built up with different weapons I can pick and choose 🙂 First up is the flamer armedÂ Klip Klopper. I could image a whole squad of these guys would be great for close range support. Next up is Da Hole Maker which has my favorite close combat bit …

Showcase: Deathskull Morkanaut

In my continued quest to complete an Ork Dreadmob, I finished my Deathskull Morkanaut and not only have the showcase but also how I painted it. The Gorkanaut/Morkanaut kit is an amazing kit to build and paint and I look forward to building and painting the second one. I already showed a bit of my progress in another post where I talked about painting on the couch while watching tv/movies with the family. I not only finished this Morkanaut but also a squad of Killa Kans in a very short time – short for me at least! Morkanaut Showcase As I said already, the Morkanaut kit has so many fun bits to build and paint that it was super quick to knock it out. I had originally planned on keeping the arms and doors unglued to they could move but decided to secure them in place since they kept dropping and/or knocking into the other bits. Dreadtober 2016 is completed! I want to thank everyone who participated and those who cheered everyone on. It’s been a great adventure and some AWESOME models have been completed. I’ve been honored to have had the opportunity to host it this year and it’s been incredible to see what everyone has done. So many of your tried new things or pushed yourself to improve something in your hobby. So even overcame school, work, and illnesses to get things done. So congrats to everybody. Gothmog – COMPLETED! This Red Hunter’s Mortis Dread was achieved simply with successively brighter silver undercoats and then washes of blood letter glaze for the red and seraphim sepia for the gold, with some Nuln oil in all the recesses and exposed silver parts.
